Greetings to Bulgaria, Poland and Cape Verde/Portugal!

The theme of their songs are quite sweet; that is hugs, vanilla, chocolate and bitter sweet love. Martin Tashev, Mietek Szcześniak and Tó Cruz were born on this day!

Mietek Szcześniak, 54

Poland selected Mietek to be their reprecentive at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1999. Therefore he sang the ballad “Przytul mnie mocno” in Jerusalem. He got 16 points, thus placing as number 18 in the final that year.

Tó Cruz, 51

Tó, who has Cape Verde origins, entered the Portuguese Eurovision selection “Festival da Canção” in 1995. His voice gave him a clear victory with the song “Baunilha e chocolate”. That is why he got to go to Dublin that year. Despite performing the song well, Portugal only scored points from two countries, which saved it from last place. The song ended in 21st place out of 23 countries. Tó is know for his voice-over for several Disney characters in Portuguese, including Quasimodo .

Martin Tashev, 39

Bulgaria selected the jazz band Kaffe to go on their behalf at Eurovision in 2005. This was the first time Bulgaria took part. Martin is the trumpet player. They performed the rhyming song “Lorraine” in Kiev, Ukraine. The song, sadly for them failed to make it to the final.

We all here at escXtra would like to send the three of them warm birthday greetings!
