Think Wentworth meets Orange Is The New Black with some telenovela angst and you get Vis A Vis. UK audiences will know it as Locked Up, which features on Channel 4’s Walter Presents service for foreign language content. During her time in Operación Triunfo – the Fame Academy meets Big Brother reality show that has taken social media by storm in the last year, Miriam Rodriguez name dropped Vis A Vis as being her favourite show.

Seeing an opportunity, a producer for the show offered Miriam the chance to star in the next season. Back in April Miriam released her debut single, Hay Algo En Mí dedicated to the show. This was used to promote the third season, which concluded last month with an average of 3 million viewers. Featuring the dancers wearing the colours of the iconic Cruz del Sur overalls, the passionate power ballad speaks to the experiences of female oppression and freedom the women are seeking. It’s an inspirational anthem that captures the female empowerment movement as a whole.

Next year will see Miriam in a brief on screen role for season 4. Images released show Miriam donning the famous uniform as one of the inmates. She will feature in a scene with the women performing as part of a choir.
