Panik Records to launch talent show for Eurovision 2024

Cyprus' last national final was the Eurovision Song Project back in 2015.

Earlier this week, CyBC announced that Andrew Lambrou will represent Cyprus at next year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool. However, this could be Cyprus’ last internal selection for the time being. The CEO of PANIK records has confirmed that the label is looking to organise a talent show selection for Eurovision 2024.

Cyprus has been toying with reverting to a national selection for some time now, having previously teased using All Together Now to select their Eurovision 2023 act.

As reported by OGAE Greece, Panik CEO Giorgos Arsenakos has revealed that a deal had been arranged for the record label to select Cyprus’ 2024 representative via a talent show.

We have agreed with the state channel of Cyprus to do a talent show, the winner of which will represent Cyprus in the 2024 Eurovision contest.

Further details have not been given at this time, so it is unclear whether the talent show will be All Together Now or a different format entirely. It is also unclear whether it is the intention for the songs to be presented as part of the show, or produced separately once the winner is chosen.

Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest

Although the Cypriot broadcaster has opted for internal selections in recent years, there was a time where Cyprus hosted national selections for Eurovision. Their last national final was the Eurovision Song Project back in 2015. This selection not only produced their 2015 entrant John Karagiannis, but also Minus One (2016) and Hovig (2017).

After the three Eurovision Song Project alumni, RIK has mostly opted for Greek female pop soloist, bringing consecutive qualifications with Eleni Foureira (2018), Tamta (2019) and Elena Tsagrinou (2021). This year, Andromache brought the Greek language back to the Eurovision stage for Cyprus for the first time since 2013. She sadly failed to qualify with her “Ela”, placing 9th with the televote, 18th with the juries and 12th overall with 63 points.
