On the 30th year anniversary, Söngvakeppnin will be again the selection show for the Icelandic entry in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest and the rules have been just released.

The national final will consist of two semifinals on the 6th and 13th of February, with a final show to select their entrant on the 20th of February.

RUV will select twelve songs for the competition, with three qualifying from each semifinal. A jury wildcard will be awarded to a 7th song.

All songs must be performed in Icelandic during the semifinals, with the possibility to change the language to English for the final. The language used on the night of the 20th will be the one used for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.

The upload of the songs is open on the RUV website until the 2nd of November at noon. At least 2/3 of the song and 1/3 of the lyrics must be composed by an Icelandic songwriter.

Italian in the UK, with a strong preference for Sweden. I support myself tweeting (not even joking) - and that's why Social Media is my kingdom. Drama tends to follow me, hence why I really feel connected to the #skandal and #fiasko hashtags.
