Overall I have to say that Spain has stepped it up massively. Easily their strongest national final line-up I can remember! Any of my top 5 would be incredible entries and whatever happens, they are early contenders for OGAE Second Chance. But it is ‘Terra’ that keeps drawing me back in. As soon as Tanxugueiras were rumoured, I was hyped. I love that combination of witchy chanting and the intensely Spanish production. There is an opportunity here to embrace minority language and culture in a way that you would never expect from Spain. Finally I understand why the Spanish fandom are so passionate and now I want to go dancing on the streets with tambourines!

By far the best song Spain has to offer this year, absolutely incredible! That doesn’t take away that the country went all out with their national final this year, providing us with a bunch of high quality songs that would do well in Eurovision. Following the preference of the fans, I believe that Terra is the best option they have this year: the production is great and it keeps you interested the entire 3 minutes. Furthermore, it highlights Spanish culture in a different way from what we’ve seen from Spain so far. And imagine the staging opportunities! I’m already hyped about this performance.

When I first heard about the Benidorm Fest selection, I was told to get ready for the Spanish GO_A. I then got to Tanxugueiras and didn’t get GO_A vibes, I got Tulia vibes. And that, I think, is its strength and its weakness at the same time. If they manage to stage this well and get their point across, this is a shoe in for a lot of televotes, both in Spain and in Europe. However, at the same time, if they don’t… this could fall flat on its face and make people wonder what on earth Spain have been thinking by sending this. I absolutely adore it. It’s so out there, the message is so clear and it’s quintessentially Spanish. I enjoy that a lot. But… staging is key. I pray to the Galician Witch Gods that they get this right.

Benidorm Fest treated us good this year with so much quality but Terra is my absolute favourite so far! The song captures starting from the first seconds and definitely stands out for me in this line-up. It gives me Tulia vibes so much as well. These ethnic sounds and strong vocals make the entry unique by showing such part of Spanish culture and very promising in terms of staging and everything. I really really hope they will get the chance to represent Spain this year because Europe needs to see and hear this masterpiece in all its beauty. Best of luck to Tanxugueiras!
