Alberte Borggreen

Hello Europe! My name is Alberte, and I come from the wonderful kingdom of Denmark. I have been a fan of Eurovision since 2014. My best friend and I sit down to watch the final together every single year, and I always sprinkle my own commentary and some fun facts into the mix – is it annoying? Maybe. But I cant help it. I just love Eurovision and sharing my passion with people.

Your first Eurovision memory?

When I was maybe ten or eleven years old, my friend Emma introduced me to Lordi. I didn’t know what Eurovision was back then, but I fell in love with Lordi. The image and the music just stuck with me, and I started listening to them obsessively – I listened to nothing but Lordi for two years and became one of the world’s top listeners! For years, Eurovision to me was the contest that Lordi won that one time, and still I get happy every time Lordi is mentioned during the contest.

Your Eurovision journey?

After obsessing over Lordi for several years, I finally watched some of Eurovision sporadically. I watched in 2013 when Denmark won. In 2014, my best friend and I decided to watch the contest together (on TV, we didn’t actually go to see it live, sadly), and we’ve done so ever since with few exceptions. I have become increasingly interested over the years, and last year I caved and joined OGAE Denmark. This year, I’m actually the Danish participant in FANvision which is going to be held in Prague – maybe I’ll see you there!

Why is Eurovision special to you?

To me, Eurovision represents the power of music. No matter what language you sing in, there’s a message and a story that we can all relate to. Music unites us. We might have differing opinions and discuss which songs are good and bad, but the important thing is that we’re having a conversation, and Eurovision got us there.

What attracted you to ESCXTRA?

I finally found a place where everyone is as enthusiastic about Eurovision as I am. For me, Eurovision season doesn’t start in May – it’s all year. From the host city bids to the national finals to everything in-between, it’s a 365-day-event. And with ESCXTRA, I finally get the chance to discuss my favorite thing all year round.

Your top 5 Eurovision songs of all time?

5) “Space Man” – Sam Ryder (UK 2022)

UK’s return to form was absolutely glorious. You could tell that Sam enjoyed every minute of his performance and his time in the contest in general. His energy was contagious, and I could not help but love “Space Man”.

4) “Amar Pelos Dois” – Salvador Sobral (Portugal 2017)

Salvador managed to blow my socks off with this absolutely beautiful song. As soon as I heard it, I knew it was going to stay in my heart forever.

3) “Fai Rumore” – Diodato (Italy 2020)

This is probably the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard. The raw emotion in Diodato’s voice is incredible to witness, and I will never forgive the pandemic for getting the 2020 edition cancelled.

2) “Hard Rock Hallelujah” – Lordi (Finland 2006)

Of course my first Eurovision memory is placed high on this list. I don’t know what to say. I just love Lordi so much.

  1. “Zitti e Buoni” – Måneskin (Italy 2021)

I live for this! The energy, Damiano David’s raspy vocals, the staging… everything about this is pure perfection. I was lucky enough to witness Måneskin in concert a few months ago, and hearing this song live was a full circle moment for me.
