Eurovision Song Contest 2025 to reintroduce a mascot

SSR-SRG the host broadcaster of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland have announced they want to reintroduce a mascot to the brand identity of the contest in May.

Over the years, there have been several attempts to enhance the brand identity of the contest with a mascot. Back in 1990 the Croatian hosts introduced the Eurocat as the first ever mascot. Two years later, Sweden added the Eurobird to the mascot family. After a twenty-year hiatus, it was the Italian hosts in Turin that gave us Leo the drone. The mascots are typically a focal point of the postcards for the watching audiences.

Now, the Swiss hosts in Basel want to recapture those Eurovision mascot memories and bring it back for the fourth time. In the coming days, 1,000 students will be asked to submit their designs for a new Eurovision mascot. A jury will evaluate the submissions and select a winner. This is one of ten projects that are part of the ‘Public Value Projects’ scheme to engage the community in the contest.
