Alina Pash has announced on Instagram that she will be withdrawing from the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 and won’t represent Ukraine in Turin.
I don’t want this virtual war and hate. The main war now is the foreign one which came to my country in 2014. I don’t want to be part of this dirty story anymore. With a heavy heart, I withdraw my candidacy as a representative of Ukraine in the Eurovision Song Contest. I want to thank everyone who supports me and helps me, who hears my song and the important message, not gossip about me. Thank you! The story continues with you and it is up to us to decide what it will be.
Alina Pash on Eurovision 2022
The statement came after the broadcaster UA:PBC put Alina Pash’s chance to compete at Eurovision on hold as they were investigating a 2015 trip she made to Crimea. The proof that Alina provided authorities of how she entered the region was being scrutinised but it is yet to be confirmed, what is the result of this investigation.
Last Saturday, Alina Pash won Ukraine’s national selection with “Tini zabutykh predkiv / Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors” by being the favourite of the jury and finishing second with the televoters.
