Cyprus begins search for Eurovision 2025 representative

Cyprus is usually among the first countries to announce their representative for Eurovision. This year will likely not be an exception, as broadcaster RIK has already started their search for an artist.

Several artists have already expressed their wish to represent Cyprus in Switzerland next year. Ahead of the MAD VMA 2024, popular artist Josephine said she “would very much like to go to Eurovision” and that she would bring a highly danceable song. She would be representing either Greece or Cyprus.

Christoforos Ilias, known professionally as Biased Beast, has already submitted his request to represent Cyprus to RIK. He has previously appeard in Just the 2 Of Us, a Greek singing competition show where a professional singer is paired with a famous person of a different profession. Christoforos has studied music and theatre in New York and was already suggested to represent Greece for 2024.

Sophia Patsalides is also rumoured to be interested in representing Cyprus next year. Sophia participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest for Cyprus in 2014 with “I pio omorfi mera”, finishing 9th. She left high school at 16 to study music on a university level and has since graduated her master’s studies. Sophia has recently gained the attention of Eurovision fans again, thanks to her cover of Slimane’s “Mon amour” in Greek.

Finally, Phidias Herodotus, known from Fame Story (the Greek version of Star Academy) and Just the 2 Of Us, has expressed his interest in representing Cyprus several times. Phidias, like Josephine, is on the roster of Panik Records, Greece’s largest music label, who work with a number of previous Eurovision contestants, including Eleni Foureira and Demy.

It appears that this year, RIK will be selecting a local artist. This is a contrast with the previous two editions of Eurovision, when the country was represented by Australian-Cypriot artists Silia Kapsis and Andrew Lambrou. Both of them reached the final.

Cyprus first participated in Eurovision in 1981, and has achieved their best result in 2018, finishing second with Eleni Foureira’s “Fuego”.
