After two years of internal selection, Slovenian broadcaster RTVSLO announced the return of the EMA show to select its entry for Basel 2025.
Submissions open for a twelve spots
The submission window for the national selection opens today, on October 28th, and will close on November 25th. After that, a panel of at least three members will select twelve entries from the submissions through a review process. The shortlist will be revealed before December 20th.
Applicants may submit their entries directly on the application page of the RTVSLO website.
Coming back after two years of absence
EMA (short for Evrovizijska Melodija, “Eurovision Song”) has been the national selection for most of Slovenia’s participations in the contest, selecting the country’s entry almost every year since 1996. The only exceptions have been the 2012 Misija Evrovizija selection, an internal selection in 2013 (due to financial and time issues, the country being close to withdrawing), and the re-selection of Ana Soklič in 2021 after the cancellation of the main contest in 2020.
For 2023, however, RTVSLO internally selected the band Joker Out after early discussions with artists, despite plans to go through the national selection process again. Last year, Raiven was selected in a similar manner to go to Malmö. Misija Evrovizija came back each year as a “showcase” show to present the song to viewers on TV.
This makes “Disko” by LPS, the 2022 entry, the last song to be sent through EMA.
