After an initial date planned on January 29th, the Greek national selection for Eurovision 2025 will eventually be held on January 30th.
The change was revealed by an official document from broadcaster ERT. With this decision, the show moves from a Wednesday slot to a Thursday slot, still a rare occurrence in the world of national selections. It will take place on the same day as Benidorm Festival’s second semi-final, in Spain.
The show will be hosted in the Galatsi Christmas Theatre, the new version of the Galatsi Olympic Hall that hosted Table Tennis and Rythmic Gymnastics during the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.
12 spots in a unique show
As we previously reported, ERT received 187 submissions, which have been evaluated and will be trimmed down to 12 entries at most for the selection show. The announcement of the songs should take place later this month.
During the show, the voting will be split in three: a national televote (50%), a Greek jury (25%) and an international jury (25%). More details on the voting can be found in our previous article on the national selection. The show itself, according to OGAE Greece, will be produced by MAD, the productions society behind the 2013-2015 selection show Eurosong – A MAD Show.
Allegedly, ERT would like Helena Paparizou and Sakis Rouvas to hos the show, although their participation is yet to be finalized.
