Eurovision is here! Delegations have been arriving in Basel in the last few days and rehearsals started on May 3. After closing the first rehearsals to the press in 2022, the EBU has now done away with TikTok videoclips. They will instead release sets of three photographs a day after each rehearsal, as well as description of the proceedings on their official channels. As such, today, we cover yesterday’s rehearsals, and continue with The Netherlands, the sixth rehearsal of the day, with “C’est la vie”.
🇳🇱 The Netherlands – Claude – First Rehearsal

What happened on stage?
This description is sourced from indications given by the official Eurovision Reddit account.
- Claude wears a dark purple suit, which looks like its made of satin, with a collar made of pearls around his neck, and some more pearls attached to his collar, above the heart-side of his chest (which sort of look like the cords you sometimes see on some military uniformes, around the medals and other honours)
- He will be accompanied by two contemporary dancers, who will dance around him “in and out of shot, like they’re just passing through his party”. This may indicate that the performance will use long takes from a single camera onstage. An important part of the performance is said to reside in Claude’s connection with the camera, which could be clear with long takes.
- The official pictures also show that three violinists will be on stage, sitting in a circular formation somewhere on the stage, with Claude standing at the centre
- The LED screens are frugally used for most of the performance, until the final chorus, when “an explosion of pink and blue flowers” will cover all the screens: back wall, frame and floor
The stage director for this performance is Pim Brassien.
Stay tuned for further coverage today, with the rehearsals of yesterday, and for our live coverage on the ground starting on May 10, which will include (among other things) the full dress rehearsals and the live shows, live from Basel!
