After DARA’s victory in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, numerous Bulgarian cities are declaring their interest to be the host city for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027. Next to consider a bid is the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv hoping to offer their location as the home of Bulgaria’s first Eurovision hosting.
🇧🇬 Plovdiv for Eurovision 2027?
Next May the contest will take place in Bulgaria following DARA’s victory with, ‘Bangaranga’. In the aftermath, BNT confirmed the bidding process will commence in the coming days. The focus will be on venue suitability, proximity of the nearest airport and infrastructure. One of the early cities to throw its name in the Eurovision 2027 hosting ring is Plovdiv. It is the second largest city of Bulgaria, with a population of roughly 500,000.
Speaking to national media in Bulgaria, the Mayor of Plovdiv has proposed his city as a contender to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2027. Mayor Kostadin Dimitrov highlighted the willingness of his city and its residents to take on the challenge. The city is renowned for its Hills of Rock Festival. One of the largest festivals for rock and metal fans in the Balkan region.
“We will apply for the hosting and will make every effort to prepare and welcome the performers and guests if we manage to bring this wonderful event to our city. Plovdiv residents deserve to experience this emotion and we are ready to be hosts.”
However, the obvious limitation for any bid is the venue. The Kolodruma velodrome currently has a capacity of 7,500 when in use as a concert venue. This is far below the required EBU minimum of 10,000.
