In the aftermath of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland more questions have been raised by broadcasters over the participation of Israel and the televoting results. Dutch broadcasters AVROTROS and NPO are the latest broadcasters to demand formal discussions with the EBU regarding their concerns with the results of Eurovision 2025.
AVROTROS and NPO issue joint statement
Despite the joyous scenes for Austria’s third victory in the Eurovision Song Contest, with JJ’s, ‘Wasted Love’, numerous broadcasters raised concerns with the televoting results. Many, including RTVSLO, RTVE, RÚV, VRT and Yle have raised formal complaints with the EBU following the televote victory and second place for Israel. Now, Dutch broadcasters AVROTROS and NPO have joined the growing list of delegations to formally issue a statement following Eurovision 2025.
“AVROTROS and NPO strongly attach great importance to the apolitical and unifying value of the Eurovision Song Contest. However, we see that the event is increasingly influenced by social and geopolitical tensions. The participation of Israel confronts us with the extent to which the Eurovision Song Contest really functions as an apolitical, connecting and cultural event. We want to discuss that question, together with other countries, within the EBU.”
The Director of ESC, Martin Green has responded with an open letter to the Eurovision community. In it, he notes the concerns of the broadcasters and confirms discussions will take place in the upcoming EBU Reference Group meeting.
