Eurovision is back! Delegations have landed/arrived in Vienna these last few days and rehearsals started last Saturday. Just like last year, for the first rehearsal, the EBU releases information on the day of each reharsal, with a sets of three photographs publishe the day after. As such, today, we cover yesterday’s rehearsals, from the second half of the first semi-final (automatic qualifiers excluded). #13 in the show is San Marino with “Superstar”
🇸🇲 San Marino – Senhit ft. Boy George – First rehearsal
The following pictures have been published by the official Eurovision accounts.
What happened on stage?
This description is sourced from indications given by the official Eurovision Reddit account.
- Unlike her 2021 guest Flo Rida, Senhit managed to bring Boy George for her first rehearsal, and they perform alongside four dancers.
- The official description warns that outfits may change between rehearsals (as we have seen many times in the last few years), but for this first rehearsal Senhit and co were wearing shiny outfits, with a “mirrorball-themed” jumpsuit for her
- The first picture shows her dancing in front of a shiny shape on the floor, which could be a cape or coat that she wears at the beginning of the song, before throwing it away. This is only speculation on our part, though.
- There will be two props on stage, with no further description given. However, the pictures show us the props in the background, and give use some hints:
- It’s hard to say whether it’s one, two or three props, but the second and third pictures show a central prop with a crystal-like shape in the middle, some loudspeakers and spotlights, where Boy George stands during part of the song (picture 2). This may be the equivalent of a DJ set.
- This central prop has two shiny, circular walls around it that only cover half of its circonference. They have wheels, and considering the shape of the background in the first picture, they likely hide the central prop (and Boy George) at the beginning of the performance then are wheeled around to reveal him (see how the shapes are opposite: in the first picture, the walls form a mountain shape, but in the two others, they form a “V” or a valley shape)
- On each side of this central prop are props that act like walls, sort of mirror-likes, with glass/mirror square shapes that look like irregular crystals
- The atmosphere will be very “camp”, as could be expected from previous performances. The spotlights will form rainbows on stage and in the arena.
- At the end, Senhit and Boy George will walk away on the catwalk with pyros concluding the act on stage
Here’s the small message Senhit and Boy George had for the Eurovision fans after their rehearsal:
Stay tuned for further coverage tomorrow, with the rehearsals of today, and for our live coverage on the ground starting on May 9, which will include (among other things) the full dress rehearsals and the live shows, live from Vienna!
