As the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 season begins to take shape in the wake of Dara’s victory in May, Latvia’s national broadcaster LTV have announced the return of Supernova 2027. The national final will select the representative for Latvia in Bulgaria next May.
Supernova 2027 returns to one-show format
The national broadcaster for Latvia, LTV has announced its intention to compete at the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 taking place in Bulgaria next May. Alongside this announcement, the broadcaster launched its upcoming national selection Supernova 2027.
Song submissions will open on 1 August for the long-standing national final. Submissions will close on October 1. Later this year, LTV will announce the competing artists. In a twist to the format, Supernova 2027 returns to a one-off show that will take place on February 6. The Final will be hosted by the Xiaomi Arena.
Further details on the format reveal a lot of similarities to neighbouring Estonia’s Eesti Laul selection. This edition of Supernova will feature a Super-Final voting round. The three Super-Finalists will be decided through the combined scores of public and international jury voting. In the Super-Final, public voting alone will determine who will represent Latvia in Bulgaria next May.

Latvia in the Eurovision Song Contest
Back in 2000 Latvia made their Eurovision debut in Stockholm with Brainstorm and their entry, ‘My Star‘. During the contest the Baltic nation placed 3rd with 136 points. Over the years, the plucky nation has achieved four top 10 results, contrasted with failing to qualify in more than half of their total participations. Their best result came with Latvia’s only win in 2002. In Tallinn, Marie N and her quick-change routine bop, ‘I Wanna‘ scored victory with 176 points.
Earlier this year the Latvian jury and public chose Atvara with ‘Ēnā’ through Supernova 2026. During the contest Atvara placed 13th in the second Semi-Final with 49 points.
