As countries plan how they will select their respective entries for Rotterdam. With Israel’s case, we previously reported that one of the options was to adapt the TV series ‘Songland’ for 2021.
Now, according to Euromix. It’s been reported that a national final consisting of 16 songs will be used to find Eden’s entry for Rotterdam.
16 entries, 3 shows, 1 song for Rotterdam
According to reports, the selection of Edene’s entry will be done in stages as follows:
First, KAN would accept submissions from songwriters. Out of the submissions received, KAN would select 16 to participate in the competition.
After the 16 entries have been announced, the entries. An an online vote to whittle down the 16 entries to just 8 will be open. Out of the 8 entries, 4 will be selected by a committee and 4 will be selected by the public.
When the 8 entries have been selected, two semi-finals, with 4 songs would then take place. With this, it’s been mentioned that Eden wouldn’t necessarily perform the competing entries herself. (With the song-writer or another performer doing so).
From then on, 2 entries from each semi-final would then proceed to the final. 4 entries would then compete to be Edene’s entry for Rotterdam.
In addition, it’s been reported that the shows is due to take place in February. The shows are set to last approximately 52 minutes each. It’s also been reported that Lucy Ayoub (Eurovision 2019 host, and host of the 2020 song selection show) will once again host the show.
KAN is yet to confirm how they will be selecting Eden’s entry for the 2021 contest.
Israel at the Eurovision Song Contest
Israel has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 41 times since making its debut in 1973. The country has won the contest four times. (1978, 1979, 1998, 2018), and has hosted the contest three times (1979, 1999 and 2019).
Since the introduction of the semi-finals in 2004, Israel has failed to reach the final six times. In 2005, Shiri Maimon gave the country its tenth top five result with “HaSheket SheNish’ar”, finishing fourth. Having failed to qualify for the final for four consecutive years (2011–2014), Israel reached the final with Nadav Guedj’s “Golden Boy” in 2015. Since Nadav’s ninth-place finish, Israel has qualified for every Grand Final.
In 2020, Eden Alene was selected to represent Israel at Rotterdam. Another national final took place, which saw ‘Feker Libi’ chosen as their entry. Despite the cancellation of the 2020 contest, it’s been confirmed that Eden will represent Israel at the 2021 contest.
