Rehearsal review

The performance starts with Uku on his knees, styled as he was for the official music video of “The Lucky One”. The lighting is dark blue with a large moon graphic framing him from the LED behind him. Like Sweden and Malta, Estonia are utilising the water effect for the LED floor, and it’s very effective yet again.

The camera cuts are mostly very tight, with Uku being framed often with letterbox camera angles, focusing on his face. The sensation of lighting strikes are created by flashing camera cuts.

Visually, there was an effort to give a sense of progression, however, where you have countries like Cyprus, Russia, Croatia, Ukraine and San Marino giving us very dynamic climaxes, this doesn’t really go anywhere visually. The second half sees the lighting change to red, but ultimately, it doesn’t deliver a ‘moment’ that a song would need to stand out between two strong uptempos.

The star of this performance for me is Uku’s backing singers, who are absolutely killing it offstage, giving the song more texture than the studio version.
