XTRA Rehearsals — Semi-final second rehearsals for Iceland, Poland, Slovenia, Estonia and Ukraine

Eurovision is here! Delegations are now in Basel and every semi-finalist has rehearsed at least once over since Saturday. Today was the first day of second rehearsals, with all of the first semi-finalists rehearsing during shorter slots of 20m. The Eurovision Instagram and Tiktok accounts have been publishing the traditional second rehearsal videos, which are short extracts of the TV feed from each performance. The Eurovision website has also released new pictures for each rehearsal.

Below, you can find all the videos from the Instagram account, as well as the new details they reveal, and links to the notes taken from the first rehearsal of each country.

The “geometric landscapes” described were actually landscapes made of hundreds of cubes, disassembling and reassembling in rythm with the music. Think Minecraft or 3d pixels (like “Pixels: the Movie”), with the former reference being very on-brand for the Icelandic brothers.

The gallery does not reveal much else, but it confirms that the boys take their sunglasses off at some point, as they did in Söngvakeppnin.

The videoclip shows a dancer acting as a musician, and the rest of the dancers joining the frame stage to dance on it while Justyna rises above the main stage, as she did in the national selection. As she does, a giant dragon appears on the back wall LED screen and flies towards the stage, appearing on the floor LED screens too.

The videoclip reveals two new elements. The main one is of course the presence of a woman on stage, who is actually Klemen’s wife, Mojca (the person to whom the song is addressed).

The second is less massive but still interesting: the light bars or lighning rigs that can be lowered from the ceiling are lowered to form a sort of “staircase” or “rising roof” over the main stage, a configuration that other delegations will use.

The pictures do not reveal anything new but confirm more interactions with Mojca.

The videoclip does not reveal much, and there are still no surprises coming from it, except a huge “Winners Café” graphic at the beginning, also confirmed by the gallery but with no other new elements. Will there be a big surprise in the actual dress rehearsals or not? We’ll tell you when we’re on the ground next week!

A big element revealed by the rehearsal is that the footage will seemingly use a saturated “bloom effect”, the soft glow or halo you can see on and around the people on stage, and especially Daniel. The pictures of the gallery do not reveal anything new.

We will come back with more information on the next five contestants of the first semi-final, so stay tuned on ESCXTRA! And don’t forget, we will be on the ground, starting on May 10, to bring you all the latest from Basel, including the Turquoise Carpet, the dress rehearsal, and more.
