Monika Liu won Lithuania’s Pabandom Iš Naujo last week with “Sentimentai”. Following her victory, she commented that she was thinking of a brand new staging for the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin.
Monika’s performance at Pabandom Iš Naujo was glamorously sober. Solo on the stage with a fitted glitter backless dress, she sang her ballad while subtly balancing her hips from left to right to the beat of the instrumental. Even the lighting was rather understated, as if to highlight her deep voice.
But immediately after winning the national selection, she announced in an interview with Lithuania’s LRT that she had other plans for the Eurovision Song Contest.
I will change a lot during the show, just let me rest one night. You still have to be in the woods, take a walk, talk to people. Almost everything needs to be changed.
This enigmatic comment allows all sorts of speculations, hinting at a less “intimate” moment. But will Monika’s team go as far as flashing lights and flamethrowers? Unlikely considering the song is a slow rhythm love song but we might still be surprised.
She already warned that she was not focussing on the final rankings, and that she would “still return to Vilnius Airport as a queen” regardless.
Sentimentai will be the first song entirely in Lithuanian since the country entered the Contest in 1994.
Any ideas on what Monika’s staging will look like? Let us know!
