Martin Green Appointed Director of Eurovision Song Contest

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has announced the appointment of Martin Green as the new Director of the Eurovision Song Contest. Green will take on this leadership role in November 2024, overseeing one of the world’s largest and most celebrated entertainment events.

Green brings extensive experience in managing large-scale events. His past projects include the ceremonies for the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, and Hull’s designation as the UK City of Culture in 2017. He also led the production of the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool, which was hosted on behalf of Ukraine and earned a BAFTA award.

The EBU’s Director of Media, Jean Philip De Tender, highlighted Green’s strategic background and its importance to Eurovision’s future.

“Martin’s experience, strategic thinking, and creative energy will be invaluable to the Song Contest as we prepare for 2025 and beyond,” De Tender stated. “This new role reflects Eurovision’s commitment to growing as an entertainment brand that continues to connect audiences through music.”

Green is currently Vice President of global live events at TAIT, a company known for its work in entertainment production. His appointment aims to support the Eurovision Song Contest’s ongoing growth as both an event and a global brand.

“The Eurovision Song Contest is known for bringing together people across generations and cultures,” Green said. “It is a privilege to take on this role, and I look forward to working with the team to build on Eurovision’s success and ensure a strong future for the contest.”

Eurovision began in 1956 as a live broadcasting experiment involving seven countries. Today, the contest attracts participation from over 40 nations, reaching hundreds of millions of viewers on television and billions through online platforms.

The 69th Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Basel, Switzerland, from May 13 to 17, 2025. The list of participating broadcasters is expected to be announced by the end of the year.
