Constantin Cobilean was originally amongst the 14 finalists but was replaced by Nadia Mosneagu after it was discovered that Constantin’s entry Mama had been performed on Russia’s version of The X Factor back in 2015.

Sunstroke Project attempt a Eurovision return

Most notably amongst the semi-finalists is Sunstroke Project, representatives for Moldova in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. Alongside Olia Tira, they finished in 22nd place with eurodance anthem Run Away. Nevertheless, the band’s saxophonist became an internet phenomenon following the performance, becoming knows as the Epic Sax Guy! Also competing is Boris Covali who was runner up to Cristina Scarlat in the 2014 Moldovan selection.

After a run of three consecutive failures to qualify, Moldova will be hoping that 2017 will be the year they can turn it around..
