Despite the fact that Eye Cue failed to take the small Balkan country back to the grand final of the contest, in true Eurovision spirit no one goes home empty handed. The band somewhat managed to remain memorable thanks to their interesting choice of wardrobe and bring the Barbara Dex Award home.
This will be the second worst dress award the country has received since their debut in 1998. Eye Cue’s predecessor, Martin Vucic (also following a pink theme) managed to make people around Europe gasp with his rather colorful stage costume back in 2005.
Tough competition?
Eurovision fans from all over the world voted Australia’s Jessica Mauboy and Belgium’s Sennek to the second and third place, but Macedonia’s Eye Cue were leading throughout the entire week. This might be due to the fact that the lead singer of the band, Marija Ivanovska, had not one, but two stage outfits that the fans could vote on.
The top five:
- FYR Macedonia – Eye Cue
- Australia – Jessica Mauboy
- Belgium – Sennek
- Montenegro – Vanja Radovanovic
- Israel – Netta
The Barbara Dex Award
The Barbara Dex Award is an annual fan award for the “worst dressed” artist in the Eurovision Song Contest. It is named after Barbara Dex, who represented Belgium in the 1993 contest, and has later stated that she had made the dress herself.
Do you agree with the result? Is there anyone else you would add to the list of “worst dressed” in this years contest?
