An actor who appreared in the Will Ferrel Netflix film – “Eurovision Song Contest: The Sory of Fire Saga” Hannes Óli Ágústsson has spoken about the impact of his now infamous like “Play Ja Ja Ding Dong!”

Do the roar

The scene is set in an Icelandic pub/bar where our protagonists Lars and Sigrit (played by Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams respectedly) are doing one of their many performances. Unfortunately agin to the pair, every time they try to do other material they get heckled by the same person (Olaf Yohansson) time after time to “Play Ja Ja Ding Dong”. This has since become a phenomena launching meme after meme on the subject.

Spoken out

In an exclusive interview to the NetflixFilm account on Twitter he has shared some opinions on the matter and had the following to say.

I’ve actually gotten quite tired of the tune

He swifly followed it up with this.

But that’s my life. Yes I am aware of [its popularity]. It has become a meme. The funny thing is when the movie was released, I was on holiday with my family on the outskirts of Iceland. And then I started getting messages from my friends… So yeah, after a few days I realised, ‘This is really becoming a thing. And then when I saw the movie, I said, ‘Oh, okay. I can see how this can become a thing

This line has had so much impact in Iceland that crowds have even heckled real life musicians to play Ja Ja Ding Dong at their gigs!

Unplanned…miracle?

Hannes also elaborated on the fact that the line was completely unprepared and wasn’t supposed to have been as prominent as it turned out to be.

I was basically just, you know, a face in the crowd in that scene,” he explained. We hadn’t really decided anything or rehearsed anything. The assistant director just said like, ‘Everybody in the audience should react very strongly to the band and beg them to play Ja Ja Ding Dong!

Furthermore he had this to add.

I just really screamed as loudly and as aggressively as I could. And that day the director, he came out in the audience and said, ‘Who screamed really loudly? I want to get a take of that’. So it sort of developed from that.
