After getting the second nine acts for the upcoming edition of Melodifestivalen yesterday and having a total of 18 acts so far, SVT announced the remaining 10 acts today. We already know the P4 Nästa artist will be among them, so we get nine more artists revealed today.
Eric Saade – Every Minute
Eric Saade made his debute in Melodifestivalen as a 19-year-old with “Manboy” and won the competition the following year with “Popular”. Eric has been on tours and had hits both in Sweden and abroad. The single “Wide Awake”, which he made together with Gustaf Norén from Mando Diao, topped many charts around Europe. Through his participation in Så Mycket Bättre in 2017, Eric became interested in writing in Swedish, and together with Anis Don Demina he got a big hit with the song “Postcard”. In 2019, Eric hosted Melodifestivalen and in 2020 he now returns to his poppy sound in English.
Klara Hammarström – Beat Of Broken Hearts
Klara Hammarström made her Melodifestivalen debute last year with the song “Nobody” and now she is back with a ballad signed Fredrik Kempe, Andreas Wijk and David Kreuger. For TV viewers, Klara first became known through SVT’s series Familjen Hammarström, where viewers get to follow the horse family where Klara is one of eleven siblings. Having previously focused on her career as a rider at the elite level, she now gives her all for the music. Her debut single “You Should Know Me Better” topped the Swedish radio list last winter.
Alvaro Estrella – Baila Baila
This spring, Alvaro Estrella went with Mendez and the song “Vamos Amigos” all the way to the Melodifestivalen final. In 2014, he made his debut in the competition as an artist with the contribution “Bedroom”. But even before that, he was a familiar face in Melodifestival contexts when he danced behind artists such as Danny Saucedo, Eric Saade and Måns Zelmerlöw. Outside the Melloscenen, Alvaro has participated in several musicals, including “West Side Story” at the Malmö Opera, and in Jerry Williams’ show “Dynamite”. “Baila Baila” was written by Anderz Wrethov, Linnea Deb, Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt.
Julia Alfrida – Rich
The artist and songwriter Julia Alfrida became the first official participant in the Melodifestivalen 2021 when she was offered a place through the radio competition P4 Nästa. Her cross-border music is influenced by dark-pop and hip hop, with lyrics and productions that often reflect the experiences that shaped her into who she is today. Julia is 25 years old and grew up in Åkersberga outside Stockholm. Her career took off already in 2019 with the single “HER” which led to live performances in connection with the Pride Festival in Stockholm and Copenhagen. “Rich” was written by Julia Alfrida, Jimmy Jansson, Melanie Wehbe.
Tusse – Voices
Tusse broke through and impressed with his artistry when he won Idol 2019. Already a year earlier, he participated in “Swedens Got Talent”. After pinching a place in the semifinals, the first single “My Soul Is Calling You” was released, which is a tribute to his late mother. The debut single from the ballad “A Better You”, an interpretation of Whitney Houston’s “How Will I Know”. This spring, Tusse’s first single after Idol was released, “Before you go”, which is also his first song in Swedish. 18-year-old Tusse makes his debut at the Melodifestivalen with a song written by Joy and Linnea Deb, Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt and Anders Wrethov.
Efraim Leo – Best Of Me
Efraim Leo is a songwriter and artist. He is 23 years old, from Stockholm and started playing guitar when he was 13 years old. He soon turned his self-written poems into emotional pop songs. In 2016, Efraim was a feature on a song that made it into the top 20 on the Billboard Dance Charts and which sold gold in Sweden. In the summer of 2019, he appeared with his debut single “You Got Me Wrong” (John Dahlbäck remix) at Summerburst in Gothenburg, Lollapalooza in Stockholm, and he opened for Icona Pop at Stockholm Pride. This year he has released the self-written EP “Timing”. “Best Of Me” was written by Efraim Leo, Cornelia Jakobsdotter, Amanda Björkegren, Herman Gardarfve.
Clara Klingenström – Behöver inte dig idag
Clara Klingenström is a 25-year-old pop artist and songwriter from Gotland. She has music in her blood as the whole family is busy with music. After the debut single “Ensam i en stad”, which was released in the spring of 2019, her artist career has steadily conquered new ground and put her name on Sweden’s music map. In 2020, she followed up with the radio favorite “Sommarminnen”. Clara has been noted for her honest and naked lyrics that manage to convey a strong recognition factor. And she is the one who wrote the lyrics to the song she is competing with. Now it’s time for the Melfest Audience to see her on stage. “Behöver inte dig idag” was written by Clara Klingenström, Bobby Ljunggren, David Lindgren Zacharias.
Sannex – All Inclusive
Swedish dansband ‘Sannex’ is the first newcomer revealed in today’s list. The band already has some history, having won the Guldklavar, the Grammis, and appearing at Allsång på Skansen twice. Their entry ‘All Inclusive’ was written by Greta Svensson and Hans Thorstensson. When asked about the entry, the songwriters mentioned that they were inspired by their parents’ love for the dance band genre, which Sannex believes the viewers will love.
Jessica Andersson – Horizon
Another returnee has been confirmed in today’s mix. Jessica Andersson will be returning to the contest, after her successful participation in 2018 with ‘Party Voice’. Her entry Horizon is written by David Kreuger, Fredrik Kempe, Marcus Lindén, Christian Holmström. When asked about the song Jessica mentions that it is grand and hopeful, as well as a challenge in terms of singing, and that it hit her in a positive way, the way none of the other songs offered to her did.
The Mamas – In The Middle
The Mamas had their big breakthrough and won the hearts of the Swedish people when they took home the win in the Melodifestivalen 2020 earlier this year with the song “Move”, and Ash Haynes, Loulou Lamotte and Dinah Yonas Manna have taken an obvious place on the Swedish music scene. Since the win this spring, The Mamas has had great chart- and radio successes, performing in Allsång at Skansen, Idol and for Crown Princess Victoria on her birthday. Last autumn, they released their debut EP “Tomorrow is waiting”. Now they are on the Melloscenen for the third year in a row. “In The Middle” is written by Emily Falvey, Robin Stjernberg, Jimmy Jansson.
After today’s artists, we will have all 28 artists and song titles for the upcoming edition of Melodifestivalen. The shows begin on February 6th and we probably hear the first songs shortly before the shows. We’ll keep you up to date with the latest news here on ESCXTRA.
