🇸🇪 The First 9 participants for Melodifestivalen 2021 revealed

The time has come, SVT has now revealed the first nine artists that will be competing at Melodifestivalen 2021. The artists were revealed once an hour between 7AMCET and 3PMCET. Looking through the line-up there is a mixture of newcomers and returnees once again.

Arvingarna – Tänker inte alls gå hem

It is more than 30 years ago that the Heirs Casper, Tommy, Kim and Lasseman started writing songs together. They have competed in Melodifestivalen five times before. The debut came in 1993 with “Eloise” and most recently they competed in 2019 with the super hit “I Do”. After 19 released albums, about 20 songs on the Swedish top, gold and platinum awards, and three Swedish Grammy wins, Arvingarna is today one of Sweden’s most beloved bands. Their entry was written by Stefan Brunzell, Nanne Grönvall, Thomas G:son, Bobby Ljunggren.

Paul Rey – The Missing Piece

Malmö artist, singer and songwriter Paul Rey made his debut at the Melodifestivalen 2020 with the song “Talking in My Sleep” which finished in sixth place. The song became one of the year’s most streamed songs from the program and Paul’s big breakthrough. Paul has collaborated with Snoop Dog and has Quincy Jones as a mentor. The upcoming EP “Note To Her” is inspired by a whole new chapter in Paul Rey’s life; he just recently became a father. Now he is back in the competition with the song “The Missing Piece”. The song was written by Fredrik Sonefors, Laurell Barker, Paul Rey.

Tess Merkel – Good Life

Therese “Tess” Merkel Solomons is the singer and artist known as Tess Merkel. For 20 years she lined up a string of hits with the group Alcazar. They competed in the Melodifestivalen five times, including the songs “Stay the Night” and “Not a Sinner nor a Saint” and had a strong conviction to unite all people under a rainbow-colored disco umbrella, with fans and audiences all over Europe. Tess stepped out on her own two feet with a song under the slogan: No matter who you are, wherever you are in life and no matter how tough it may be, it can always be praised. “Good Life” was written by Tony Malm, Tess Merkel, Palle Hammarlund, Mats Tärnfors.

Emil Assergård – Om allting skiter sig

Emil is a 29-year-old artist and songwriter who was born in the small village of Undrom in Sollefteå. Since the debut album “Rakt från hjärtat”, in 2013, he has released over 50 songs, including hits such as “All in” and “Jag råkade sälja min bästa vän” and Emil Assergård has been awarded a number of platinum and gold records. In 2019, he was nominated for “Male Live Artist of the Year” in Aftonbladet’s music award Rockbjörnen. He is a very active live artist and has also participated in TV programs such as “Bingolotto” and “Lotta på Liseberg”. Now it’s time for a debut at the Melodifestivalen. “Om allting skiter sig” was written by Emil Assergård, Jimmy Jansson, Jimmy ”Joker” Thörnfeldt, Anderz Wrethov, Johanna Wrethov.

Eva Rydberg & Ewa Roos – Rena rama ding dong

Eva Rydberg and Ewa Roos are two of our most beloved Swedish actors and artists with long careers in theater, revue, film and music. They have shared the stage many times and now it’s time for them to enter one of our biggest music scenes together. They are not pure debutants in the Mello context. Eva Rydberg participated in 1977 and Ewa Roos won a talent competition hosted by Bildjournalen, and she represented Sweden in a singing competition in Riccone, Italy. Now they are hoping for their big breakthrough, with their participation in the Melodifestivalen 2021. “Rena rama ding dong” was written by Göran Sparrdahl, Kalle Rydberg, Ari Lehtonen.

Mustasch – Contagious

Another returnee is in the midst, in the form of Ralf Gyllenhammar, who is a member of Mustasch. The Grammi award-winning rock band will be competing with the song ‘Contagious’ which was written by Ralf Gyllenhammr and David Johannesson.

The band has released 11 albums, all of which have reached the Top 40 in the Swedish Album charts.

Kadiatou – One Touch

Another newcomer is added into the mix, in the form of Kadiatou. She will be performing ‘One Touch’ which was written by: Linnea Deb, Joy Deb, Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt, and Anderz Wrethov

Prior to taking part in Melodifestivalen, she competed in Idol Sweden in 2018. Her version of ‘ Say Something’ originally by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera, saw her achieve a platinum record in Sweden.

LOVAD – Allting är precis likadant

The second participant revealed is newcomer LOVAD, who will be competing with the song ‘Allting är precis likadant’ (Everything Is Exactly The Same) which was written by Mattias Andréasson, Alexander Nivek, Lova Drevstam, Albin Johnsén.

LOVAD has been invited to perform on the big stage with artists such as Plura, Mauro Scocco and Eric Gadd. Recently, she has had a radio hit with Albin Johnsén titled ‘Vi gjorde vårt bästa’.

Danny Saucedo – Dandi dansa

The first artist to be revealed for Melodifestivalen 2021 is returnee ‘Danny Saucedo’ who will be participating in the competition for the third time with the song ‘Dandi dansa’ which is written by Danny Saucedo, Karl-Johan Råsmark.

Danny has had two successful participations in 2011 with ‘In The Club’ and in 2012 with ‘Amazing’ with both entries placing 2nd. After his two consecutive participations, he also co-hosted the competition with Gina Dirawi in 2013.
