Rehearsal review

Rehearsing right now inside the Rotterdam Ahoy is The Roop, performing “Discoteque” for Lithuania. We will continue to update this article as each run through takes place, so make sure to keep refreshing for the most up-to-date review!

The performance begins with The Roop’s lead singer in front of a big white square on the LED backdrop and we see the band in their familiar yellow costumes. Throughout the performance we see the camera split into three squares to focus on the different members of the band which adds an extra layer of dynamism to the camera work compared to what we saw in the Lithuanian national final.

As always, we have three band members on stage with two dancers. Prior to the first pre-chorus, the lighting on the performers blacks out to create a silhouette effect before we enter the chorus with the familiar choreography we have seen in previous performances of “Discoteque”. The lighting and LED backdrop has a dominant pink and black colour theme, with use of different shapes and geometric images. We also see a lightning effect on the LEDs at times.

It seems like The Roop’s leader singer has amped up his use of facial expression which create an even stronger connection to viewers. In addition, in the final chorus, an on-stage camera is used which the band directly connect with, a nice contrast to the wider-angle camera shots during the rest of the performance.

During the second run through, the lead singer struggles to find his spot on stage declaring “Where’s my spot?” during the first verse!
