With Turin officially announced as Eurovision 2022’s host city, the contest seems to be getting closer and closer already. The countries that will attend next year’s contest are steadily confirming their participation, all of whom also participated in the 2021 contest. However, ESCToday shared that an old friend is returning as well: broadcaster RCTG has confirmed that Montenegro will return to the contest in 2022!
The return of Montenegro
With their newly confirmed return, Montenegro joins a list of 30 countries that will also compete for the Eurovision trophy in Italy. The Balkan country had a 2 year absence, not competing in the contest in 2021 and 2020. Already in 2021, Montenegrin artists called for a return to the contest. Now, RTCG has listened to them, and to all the fans who were hoping to see them in Eurovision again!
While there is no further information on their song selection method or artist choice, we are sure it will be revealed in due time. In any case, we can already look forward to a memorable comeback!
Montenegro in the Eurovision Song Contest
Upon gaining independence in 2006, Montenegro applied to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007. Debut entrant Stevan Faddy failed to qualify from the 28 country semi final. Two further attempts in the late 2000s yielded the same result. Upon returning in 2012, Montenegro found greater fortune, qualifying in succession in both 2014 and 2015. Their best result came in 2015, where Knez came 13th with his song ‘Adio’.
Their latest entry came in 2019, where group D-Mol failed to qualify with their song ‘Heaven’. The country missed out on the 2020 and 2021 contests, but is set to return in 2022!
