The Israeli broadcaster, KAN, has revealed that in 2023 the entry for Israel will be selected internally. This will mark the first time since 2014 that the artist will be selected internally. In the past years, Israel selected their artists and songs via a talent show.
Who will represent Israel in 2023?
The last time Israel selected their artist internally was in 2014 when Mei Feingold represented the country in Copenhagen. In the following years, the public had a say in choosing the artist and in the past few years also in what song will represent Israel at Eurovision. For 2023 the Israeli broadcaster is changing their method and will go internal for both the artist and the song.
A committee made of 9 members from KAN and the music industry will look at famous chart-leading artists who are experienced in live performances in front of a large audience. After the selection of the artist, a procedure will begin for the selection of the song that best represented Israel on the stage at Eurovision 2023. Further details on the selection of the song will be published later.
In 2022 Israel was represented by Michael Ben David and his song “I.M”. He came 13th in the second semi-final in Turin with a total of 61 points, making this the first time since 2014, that Israel missed the final.
