Recently the members of Eurovision fan clubs around the world have been voting in the OGAE Song Contest 2024. This year it was hosted by OGAE UK. Now they have revealed it is Italy and Annalisa with ‘Euforia’ that has taken victory.
Annalisa wins OGAE Song Contest 2024
After a slight dip in form, Italy reclaims the OGAE Song Contest crown with their first win since 2012 with victory for Annalisa – ‘Euforia’. Italy now have a total of five wins in the fan contest. This comes a month after Annalisa’s victory in the OGAE Second Chance Contest 2024.
Over a career spanning fifteen years, Annalisa has become a household name in the Italian music industry. Many Eurovision fans will be familiar with Annalisa’s six attempts to represent Italy in Sanremo. Such has been the impact of ‘Sinceramente in 2024 that Annalisa has bagged an MTV EMA for ‘Best Italian Act’ and has seen international success in Spain. The Spanish version recently topping the Los40 charts.
However, for this contest it was ‘Euforia’ that proved to be the sound of everyone’s year. Overall it amassed 197 points from the other 23 participating OGAE clubs, emphatically beating Dua Lipa’s ‘Dance The Night’ by 40 points. ‘Euforia’ is the fourth single from Annalisa’s eighth studio album, E poi siamo finiti nel vortice. The album became Annalisa’s first to top the Italian charts, making Annalisa the female Italian artist with the most album sales.
What is the OGAE Song Contest?
Beginning in 1986, the OGAE Song Contest is the oldest OGAE contest, uniting all the national OGAE clubs in a music fan contest. Each club puts forward their favourite original song from their country. After which, fans from every club judge and vote for their favourite track. Since 2023, the format has merged with the now defunct OGAE Video Contest that was held from 2003-2021.
The rules, (courtesy of OGAE):
- Have been released on an album or as a single on vinyl, CD or as a digital download, or as a video, no earlier than the start of the year prior to the contest (i.e. for the 2024 contest, songs must have been released on or after 1 January 2023).
- Be an original version (not a remix).
- Not include samples of any other song.
- Not have competed in the Eurovision Song Contest, Junior Eurovision Song Contest, OGAE Second Chance Contest or any related public pre-selections.
- If a music video exists, the video must have been released by the relevant artist.
- Be a studio version, not a live recording or part of a film, etc.
- Be performed by an artist with the nationality/residency of the nominating OGAE national club. For groups, at least one performer must be of the nationality/residency of the nominating OGAE national club.
- Be of a maximum duration of 5 minutes.
Last year, OGAE UK extended their record breaking achievement in the contest with an eighth victory. The winning entry was, ‘As It Was’ by former One Direction star, Harry Styles.
