During the MTV Music Awards 2024 held in Manchester, England, the stars of Eurovision and national finals saw big wins in the regional categories, including ‘Best Swiss Act’ for Eurovision 2024 winner Nemo!
Eurovision stars win regional MTV awards
One of the most hotly contested awards among the Eurovision community was the ‘Best Italian Act’. Among the nominees were Italian Eurovision representatives Mahmood (2019, 2022) and Angelina Mango (2024). Also nominated were the household names of Sanremo – Annalisa, Ghali and The Kolors. Between them, the Italian nominees have a combined 13 appearances in Sanremo. In a reversal of the result earlier this year, Annalisa won ‘Best Italian Act’. Annalisa received recognition for her first number 1 album, ‘E poi siamo finiti nel vortice’ and breaking out into the Spanish market with the Spanish version of Sanremo hit, ‘Sinceramente’.
Meanwhile in Switzerland, Nemo cracked the MTV EMAs code by winning the award for ‘Best Swiss Act’. After winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 earlier this year, it has been a Summer of success. Recently, Nemo released new single ‘Eurostar’, featuring their new Eurovision friends. Next year Nemo will embark on a European Tour.
Over in Spain, Lola Indigo took home the award for ‘Best Spanish Act’ for the second time. Taking the win over another Sanremo alumni in Ana Mena who participated in the competition in 2022. Back in 2017, Lola Indigo was simply known as Miriam Doblas. On her way to stardom, Miriam took part in the Spanish national final Operación Triunfo 2017.
Elsewhere in Portugal, it was not to be for Festival da Canção regular, Bárbara Tinoco in the award for ‘Best Portuguese Act’. However, she did miss out to someone with a Eurovision connection! Bárbara Bandeira is the daughter of Portugal’s 1999 representative Rui Bandeira.
Israel’s Eurovision 2023 representative Noa Kirel also won the top prize for ‘Best Israeli Act’.
