This morning, Czechia announced their representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, to be held in Basel, Switzerland. It’s ADONXS!
Adam Pavlovčin (ADONXS) is 29 years old and originally comes from Myjava, Slovakia. Adam moved to Prague and later London to pursue a career in music. While still in high school, he formed the duo PACE with a classmate, which was joined by two other musicians after Adam’s move to London. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Songwriting and Creative Musicianship at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute in London. In 2021, he moved back to Prague and consequently won the Czech-Slovak talent show SuperStar. Adam is the first openly queer winner of this show. Since 2021, he has released several singles as well as his debut album “Age of ADONXS“.
ADONXS’ song for Eurovision has already been decided on, but will be released to the public at a later date. The song is “uncompromising, cheeky, sometimes cinematic and with room for dancing”. Adam states he has been dreaming of going to Eurovision for a long time and has been making music with this goal in mind:
“First of all, I am really happy; participating in Eurovision has always been my big dream. At the same time, I feel a great responsibility to represent a country that has a great recent history in the competition, and which is my home.
I have visualised this moment to a large extent and for the last year I have mainly focused on creating new songs, also with the ambition of Eurovision. I applied with several songs, and I am happy that one of them was ultimately successful. I can’t wait to be able to share the song with you.”
This is the first time since 2022 that Czechia chose their artist internally. In the second half of 2024, the selection took place behind the scenes in several phases, as Czechia’s Head of Media, Michal Utíkal, explains:
“The candidates were first decided by a 10-member international jury consisting of 5 professionals from the field of music production and music composers, plus 5 former foreign representatives of Eurovision. The next part was quantitative research with more than 900 respondents from three foreign countries. To ratify the voting result, we conducted another research through a focus group. And ADONXS was the clear winner in all aspects.”
Czechia’s International PR and Communications Manager, Ahmad Halloun, adds:
“We are all pleased that ADONXS came out as the winner. Eurovision has been his dream, and you could see it from our very first meetings – he was one step ahead and ready to work. Now we are all gearing up to deliver the best result for Czechia in the Contest.”
Czechia failed to qualify last year, with Aiko’s “Pedestal” reaching 11th place in the semi-final. The country’s best result was in 2018, when Mikolas Josef’s “Lie to Me” came 6th in the Grand Final.
