Earlier this year, SSR-SRG the host broadcaster of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland announced they wanted to reintroduce a mascot to the brand identity of the upcoming contest in May. Now it has been confirmed that ‘Lumo’ won the mascot competition.
Lumo – The pulse of Eurovision
Over the years, there have been several attempts to enhance the brand identity of the contest with a mascot. Back in 1990 the Croatian hosts introduced the Eurocat as the first ever mascot. Two years later, Sweden added the Eurobird to the mascot family. After a twenty-year hiatus, it was the Italian hosts in Turin that gave us Leo the drone. The mascots are typically a focal point of the postcards for the watching audiences.
Now, SSR-SRG have confirmed that Lumo, will encapsulate the pulse of Eurovision and become the new mascot of the competition to embody the spirit of, ‘United By Music’. The gender-neutral mascot was designed by Lynn Brunner. Recently, SSR-SRG held a competition for Swiss students to design a new Eurovision mascot. This was part of a series of ten projects termed the ‘Public Value Projects’ scheme to engage the community in the contest. Out of 36 entrants, Lynn was chosen as the winner. All of the top 5 will receive tickets to the rehearsals in Basel. Lynn is a student of the Basel Academy of Art and Design (FHNW)
“I’m over the moon to be able to design the mascot for Eurovision 2025. This will give my creativity a huge national and international platform – it’s a massive opportunity for me.”

In a press release from the host Swiss broadcaster, they revealed further details on what Lumo represents for the Eurovision brand.
“Lumo embodies the unstoppable power of music. Its untamed curly hair blazes like flames, dancing wildly to the beat and reflecting the electrifying euphoria of Eurovision. With its bright colours, it illustrates the heat of emotions – from fervent enthusiasm to the warming comfort of shared experiences. Its big bright eyes, mouth poised to burst into song, and its expressive hands make Lumo a joyous ambassador of musical diversity and togetherness.
As a gender-neutral and universal figure, Lumo represents unity and openness by bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together through the power of music. From the beginning of May, Lumo will walk the streets of Basel spreading the Eurovision spirit, like a living heartbeat showing that music knows no boundaries.”
