After months of silence, Georgia finally revealed its entry for Eurovision 2025. Mariam Shengelia will fly to Basel to represent the Caucasian state, with the song “Freedom”.
A late reveal for Georgia
Eurovision fans are accustomed to Georgia being among the last countries to release its entry for the contest, and this year they are the second-to-last (or third-to-last if you consider Malta’s entry’s change, which is coming tonight, as a completely new reveal). The song, “Freedom”, was released this afternoon.
The song contains lyrics in both English and Georgian, in a classic, orchestra ballad. It was composed by Keti Gabisiani, with lyrics from Buka Kartozia. In it, Mariam sings about freedom, and her love for her homeland, Georgia.
Who is Mariam Shengelia?
Mariam has already taken part in several talent shows on Georgian TV, including “The X Factor Georgia” in 2018 (when she was eliminated in the semi-finals) and “Georgian Idol” in 2019 (which was the national selection for Georgia’s artist for Eurovision 2020).
Recently, she has also been a public supporter of Georgia’s governing party “Georgian Dream”, having appeared in concerts during the 2024 elections.
