Erika Vikman issues statement on staging changes to ‘Ich Komme’

In the aftermath of her UMK 25 victory, Erika Vikman confirmed that discussions had taken place to alter elements of the ‘Ich Komme’. In a comment made to Swedish outlet, Expressen, Erika claimed the EBU had told her to tone down the risque nature of the performance.

“It’s not just one thing, it’s everything: My clothes, what the song is about, how I move on stage. The EBU has said it’s a bit too sexual. They want to cover my butt.”

However, a spokesperson for the Finnish national broadcaster Yle quickly dismissed this claim. Anssi Autio the Executive Producer of UMK stated that although he cannot comment directly on Erika’s comments, the EBU has issued no such request during the discussion meetings for Basel. Since then, Erika has taken to her own social media platforms to issue a statement. On Instagram, Erika confirmed that she had already committed after winning the national final, to changing the outfit. As well as claiming that the EBU did suggest toning down the stage performance. The final staging plans have been submitted and the delegation are waiting for confirmation of their vision for Basel.
