In a recent interview, the Head of Media at RTS confirmed the Balkan nation will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 taking place in Austria next May.
🇷🇸 Serbia preparing for 70th Eurovision
Duška Vučinić-Lučić who is the current Eurovision commentator for Serbia and Head of Media for RTS, has confirmed the broadcaster will take part in the upcoming contest in Austria. During the interview, no further details were given on the selection method. However, it is believed the next Serbian representative will be chosen using the next edition of Pesma za Evroviziju.
Despite the reluctance to discuss Serbia’s selection plans, Duška was keen to reflect on Eurovision 2025. Supporting the statements made by Uroš Marković (Head of Delegation), she reiterated that RTS are not looking to join the growing number of broadcasters submitting complaints to the EBU over the Eurovision 2025 results. This is due to Serbia’s non-qualification. Uroš Marković “wants to believe that everything was in order”. However, Duška did concede that she believes Serbia would have advanced to the Grand Final if a jury had been able to vote in the Semi-Finals.
Serbia in the Eurovision Song Contest
After previously competing as part of one-time winning nation Yugoslavia, and then Serbia & Montenegro, Serbia made their debut as an independent nation in 2007. Marija Šerifović was selected as Serbia’s first Eurovision entrant, with, ‘Moltiva’. After winning the Semi-Final with 298 points, Serbia managed to win the whole contest, scoring 268 points in the Final.
Following a successful first year, Serbia placed 6th on home soil in 2008. However, in 2009, they failed to make the final for the first time. Since then, Serbia have managed one more top three placing – in 2012. Željko Joksimović, who had already been a Eurovision runner-up in 2004 for Serbia & Montenegro, finished 3rd with, ‘Nije ljubav stvar’.
Last year, following victory in Pesma za Evroviziju ’25, Princ represented Serbia with, ‘Mila’. Unfortunately he failed to qualify for the Grand Final. ‘Mila’ placed 14th in the second Semi-Final.
