SMRTV Director General releases statement on Eurovision 2025

Despite the joyous scenes for Austria’s third victory in the Eurovision Song Contest, with JJ’s, ‘Wasted Love’, numerous broadcasters raised concerns with the televoting results. Many, including AVROTROS/NPO, NRK, RTVE, RTVSLO, RTÉ , RÚV, VRT and Yle have raised formal complaints with the EBU following the televote victory and second place for Israel. Now, San Marino’s broadcaster SMRTV has joined the growing list of delegations to formally issue a statement following Eurovision 2025.

“It doesn’t work on one hand because televoting evidently has conditions that go beyond the song listened to. What is even more serious is the lack of consideration and seriousness on the part of the juries . These juries, who never know who chose them, with which names and with what skills with respect to music, have given votes that are truly shameful.”

Roberto Sergio, (SMRTV Director General)

The statement from Roberto Sergio takes issue with both televoting and jury voting. Suggesting that many factors are involved as to why people may or may not vote. Indicating that it may not be the song or the performance that assists that decision.

The local Secretary for Tourism, Federico Pedini Amati took the matter a step further. Alleging that San Marino are being punished for its microstate status.

“What we would like to say to the EBU is that we wouldn’t like to keep being penalised just because we are a microstate. It’s not fair. We prepare for Eurovision, we bring top-notch artists. As a country, we are equal to the other larger countries.”

Federico Pedini Amati, (Secretary for Tourism)
