She won the wildcard to Unser Song für Österreich a few weeks ago, so tonight, it’s showtime for Ann Sophie! She’ll be competing against seven other German artists in order to win the ticket to Eurovision 2015 in Vienna! Read what she had to say below.
escXtra.com: Hey Ann Sophie! Thanks for this interview! How are you preparing for USfÖ?
Ann Sophie: Hello ! 🙂 I am taking it day by day so far.
X: What can you tell us about your musical philosophy?
AS: Its all about the moment, I would say. I don’t try to force anything or plan anything too much, since I believe that my body will tell me what to do, when I am on stage. Obviously you have to prepare, that is not what I mean – but at the end of the day, it is probablly about how much you can trust yourself. That’s a challenge.
X: You won the Clubkonzert a few weeks ago. What did you expect from that show?
AS: Literally – I just went and wanted to have a good time, play a great show with an amazing band and lots of dope people ;). The fact that I won the wildcard is still a little bit unreal to me, given the things that have already happened.
X: You chose Jump The Gun and Black Smoke as your two songs for USfÖ. Why did you decide to pick these two? And why did you decide to have Jump The Gun as your first song?
AS: First I applied with my Single “Get Over Yourself” that I wrote in New York – since that song was already published I was not allowed to sing it at the Clubconcert, or at all at the ESC. Therefore I got to pick a few songs “Jump The Gun” and “Black Smoke” – both songs that I did not write. Jump The Gun is a really cool song, and has a good laid back groove – We thought it would probably be the better one for the Clubconcert.
X: I read Black Smoke was co-written by British popstar Ella Eyre. How was it to work with her?
AS: Unfortunatelly I have not met her – so I did not work together with her. But I love love love that song. I am grateful to the people who wrote it. Thank you at this point. Hopefully I will get to sing it.
X: Of course, Elaiza won USfÖ last year after winning the Clubkonzert. Do you feel extra pressure, following their footsteps?
AS: Of course I feel pressure. But it does not have anything to do with them. This is a different circumstance and therefore I do not think about it too much. I try to focus on what is important right now. First of all to have a fun, cool night and perform the hell out of those songs. 🙂
X: Are you a Eurovision fan?
AS: Since I lived in New York for three years, I did not really get the chance to follow it all. But when Lena was singing “Satellite” I was on fire- I loved that song and her performing it. I love the idea of the ESC. Bringing Europe together with music is truly wonderful.
X: What’s your all time favourite Eurovision song?
AS: Satellite 🙂
X: Finally, do you have a message for the readers of escXtra.com?
AS: Well first of all, thank you for the interview and for your time. I am sure they must be as nervous as I am – because it is very exciting. I hope we can give you an amazing show tomorrow, all of us. “I am me, when I am music,” – Ann Sophie
