It’s taken them five years, but Paula Seling and Ovi have now decided to find a name for their duets. Instead of ‘Ovi & Paula Seling’, we’ll see the name ‘OPS’ from now one. Sometimes, you just don’t need complicated names…
The duo has immediately released their first single under the OPS name and interestingly, they didn’t complicate matters there either. Their single is called S.A.M.P. – and OPS promise a different sound from what their fans are used to. The song is a cover from a Eurovision attempt we saw in 2014: She’s After My Piano by 2 Fabiola ft. Loredana in Belgium. The song went on to become a massive summer hit over in Belgium, despite losing out to Axel Hirsoux and his Mother in the national final.
The choice for She’s After My Piano is no surprise, not only because of its status as summer hit, but also because Ovi wrote the song himself. He entered the song into the Belgian national final the same year he and Paula went to Eurovision with Miracle.
Ovi describes “OPS” as a “natural continuation of the 5 years of collaboration with Paula”. Both will still have solo projects under individual names, but the OPS ‘brand’ aims to keep their duet work “more distinctive”, Ovi states.
The lead single of the OPS project is enthusiastically introduced by Paula; “projects with Ovi challenge me to explore new characters every time. S.A.M.P. is no exception. Just like “Playing with Fire”, there is a funny dialogue between us, a sort of play.”
