It happens every year. We, the fan community, join together in watching national finals and once the result comes, we’re gobsmacked about the choice made by the responsible public and/or jury. Sometimes, we’re proven wrong as countries end up doing really well in the contest, but there are cases where we can all go ‘See, you were wrong.’

Soluna Samay already told her Danish audience how wrong they were back in 2012 by telling them they Should’ve known better, which was frankly quite obvious given how contrived and terrible her song was... however, our focus is now with the entries from 2015. Nick has already begun the series, Peter will follow too but this week it is up to me, Nathan, to take you through the national final season of the most recent Eurovision Song Contest. Along the way, we’ll be sharing our favourites from all these national finals with you! This week, I'll be talking about Iceland, Denmark, Moldova and Georgia.

Iceland:
Sunday - Feathers
Fresh from the success of Margaret Berger's "Feed Me Your Love" and the subsequent best points finish ever for Latvia with Aminata's "Love Injected", perhaps it isn't too out-there to suggest that Sunday was actually the better choice for Iceland, particularly in attempting to qualify from a tough semifinal. Surely this would have done much better than Maria? Certainly, it's in tune...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbH7TTmGw7w

Denmark:
World of Girls - Summer Without You
Where do you even begin with Denmark? With such a strong national final line-up this year, that makes this selection a tough choice. My gut instinct was to go with Anne Gadegaard's "Suitcase", particularly with her former JESC participant credentials. Except, that wasn't my favourite. "Summer Without You" by World of Girls was. The lyrics were fun and catchy, helping this, no doubt, to qualification from semifinal 1 if it had been selected, no?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rsw5DNG5s3A

Moldova:
DoReDoS - Maricica
Moldova was a hot mess in Vienna, so if they wanted hot mess why didn't they send this. Maricica. Plus it had everyone's favourite Pasha Parfeny in. Enough said.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQwZGfvFgoQ

Georgia:
Niutone - Run Away
Georgia has a penchant for choosing songs that don't really fit into genres we would usually see at Eurovision. "Run Away" would have been another Georgian entry that breaks the Eurovision mould and is a chance missed, in my opinion. If this had been given a bit of a revamp to bring it into 2015, as "Warrior" was, this may have performed just as well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=staYarJG6yI

So that's this week's round-up from me. Let me know if you agree with my choices or did you prefer some other songs I didn't choose? Next week I will address four more countries and suggest perhaps better choices!
