The 49 pre-selection acts for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2016 were just announced by the national broadcaster.
The list includes Eurovision 2002 runner-up Ira Losco. In the past weeks there were a lot of rumours circulating about the possible names. Eventually Losco’s name turned to be true as she managed to over come the first hurdle with two songs.
Apart from Losco, who surely is the biggest name in the competition, there are some familiar faces and others who are new.
A total of 153 entries were submitted, nineteen more than the previous selection. The twenty semi-finalists will be announced on Friday 11th December, during the prime-time show Xarabank.
The semi-finalists will compete in a semi-final show on 22nd January and the national final is schedule a day after. This year’s national selection shows will take place at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta.
In the last Maltese selection, Amber won the right to represent the tiny island in the Eurovision Song Contest. A mixture of a jury and public vote will select Malta’s 29th entrant in Europe’s favourite show.
