ESCXTRA are live from Lisbon for day 8 of rehearsals ahead of the Eurovision Song Contest 2018! It’s a very short day today because this afternoon, the blue carpet takes place ahead of the official Opening Ceremony!

Furthermore, read our handy guide for a more detailed look at this contest’s rehearsal schedule.
In addition, for our immediate reactions to every single rehearsal, you can follow our live stream from the press centre at the Altice Arena by visiting our YouTube channel.
The next artist to rehearse for the second time is Michael Schulte for Germany. We have just watched their latest run through of You Let Me Walk Alone live on screen and here is our initial reaction.

Staging

Michael’s second rehearsal looks the same as the first rehearsal, other than a few small camera tweaks.
Michael begins the performance with minimal stage lighting He engages with the camera in several close up shots. LED projection begins at the first chorus and features hand-drawn illustrations as well as the photos which were sent in from fans. During the second chorus, the LED changes to a series of vector animations in white, black and red – these include several key words from the chorus. Although these graphics spin around very quickly and a few of us experienced motion sickness. Overall, a really really good performance with very little things wrong.

Camera shots in this performance: 43

Vocal

Michael’s vocals are, as expected, just as spot on as they always have been. He handles the whole thing wonderfully with no backing vocals.

Costume

Michael is wearing the same costume that he wore in the first rehearsal – all black, a sweater, pants and shoes. Very simple but anything more wouldn’t really work very well.

Left hand side of the board?

We have taken a flash poll from around the ESCXTRA table here in the press centre and  5 out of 8 of us say…

NO!
