🇲🇰 Vasil releases his Eurovision entry ‘You’

It's North Macedonia's 20th entry to the Eurovision Song Contest

A year on after releasing Proud by Tamara Todevska, North Macedonia has released their Eurovision entry for the 2020 contest. Vasil will represent North Macedonia with the song ‘You’, you are now able to watch music video for the song below:

The music video for ‘You’ was directed by Milena Vitman, recorded and edited by Gjorgi Vacev and produced by Jellmaz Dervishi.

About ‘You’

Vasil’s Eurovision entry was composed by Nevena Neskoska, a Macedonian composer born in Ohrid but raised in Chicago, where she studied Songwriting at the Berklee College of Music. The lyrics for ‘You’ was written by Nevena along with Kalina Neskoska and Alice Schroeder.

The producers and arrangers for the song are Nevena Neskoska, Darko Dimitrov and Lazar Cvetkoski. This will be Darko Dimitrov’s second entry in the 2020 contest, where he co-wrote Albania’s Eurovision entry ‘Shaj’.

When asked about what ‘You’ is about, Vasil had the following to say:

You, is an invitation for everyone to connect, open up, dance, and celebrate the moment.

We’ve all been there. The moment when that unexplainable thing happens and sensations take over you.

The choice is yours: let go, put your dancing shoes on, celebrate, and just dance.

“We May only have tonight, hold me tight and let’s ignite … and for the moment I … just wanna dance with YOU.”

North Macedonia will be competing in the first half of the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest, which is due to take place on the 12th May 2020.

North Macedonia at the Eurovision Song Contest

North Macedonia, formerly participating as the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (F.Y.R. Macedonia), has participated in the contest 18 times. After an unsuccessful attempt in 1996, they officially debuted at the 1998 contest with Vlado Janevski’s “Ne zori, zoro”.

North Macedonia was previously one of the most unlucky countries in the contest. After 18 appearances, they are yet to crack the top 10. Before 2019, their best result was Elena Risteska’s 12th-place finish in 2006 with “Ninanajna”. Their most recent Grand Final appearance was with Kaliopi’s “Crno i belo” in 2012, which finished 13th.

In 2018, they were represented by Eye Cue with the song “Lost & Found”. Despite being popular with fans prior to the contest, the song did not qualify for the Grand Final in Lisbon.

This year, their fortunes changed after internally-selected Tamara brought them an unprecedented level of success. She managed to deliver North Macedonia’s best result to date in Tel Aviv by placing 7th overall in the Grand Final. This is after she won the Jury vote with 247 Points. She finished with 305 points overall.
