Yle has revealed that 114 664 votes were cast during the final of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2020, where Aksel was selected to represent Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020.
Around 1700 votes between Erika and Aksel
The televote winner on the night was Erika Vikman, who got 99 points from the audience. That is approximately 30.9 percent of all the votes, meaning around 35431 votes in total.
The winner of the final, Aksel Kankaanranta, got the most points from the international jury and the second-highest points from the Finnish public. In total he got 94 points from the televote, which is approximately 29.4 percent of the votes. That means he got around 33711 votes in total.
This means Erika Vikman and her song “Cicciolina” got bit over 1700 votes more than Aksel. “Cicciolina” was the big favourite to win, after it reached over one million views on YouTube and 1.5 million streams on Spotify before the final. On the final night, this vantage didn’t reflect on the votes on the same scale.
Yle also reveals that 56 000 people voted on with the free yle.fi -app. On the app, each person could cast one vote.
