🇦🇺 Guy Sebastian releases new single and music video “Standing With You”

It’s New Music Friday and Guy Sebastian, Australia’s representative in their debut Eurovision appearance in the 2015 contest, has released a brand new single “Standing With You”.

A message of strength and support

Released alongside a brand new video clip which you can watch below, Guy’s new ballad has immediately hit #1 on iTunes Australia within hours of its release. The message of the song is very timely considering the potentially isolating circumstances we find ourselves in during the ongoing global pandemic. As the Australian Idol star explains in his video message embedded below, the song is about supporting people as they face unexpected challenges.

Guy Sebastian at Eurovision

Following the surprise announcement that Australia would be permitted to take part in the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest to celebrate the show’s 60th anniversary, SBS immediately chose one of Australia’s most popular stars to represent the nation in Vienna. Guy Sebastian, who initially intended to rework a track from his most recent album to sing in Vienna, ended up creating a brand new song entitled “Tonight Again”.

After placing fifth in Vienna, the EBU determined that Australia’s competitive presence in the contest was warmly received and has since invited the nation back for each contest since. Whilst Australia is yet to be made a permanent participant in Eurovision, SBS has so far secured Australia’s participation up until the 2023 contest. Nevertheless, unless the Eurovision Asia Song Contest manages to get off the ground, there seems to be no reason why Australia won’t be staying in Eurovision for the foreseeable future!

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
