A change of broadcaster
According to Eurofestivales, ABC has given back the responsibility of the Australian Junior Eurovision participation to SBS.
Australia debuted in Junior Eurovision in 2015 with SBS, but after 2016, ABC took over. This agreement was signed in order to find a more suitable place to broadcast the contest, as ABC aired the contest on it’s children channel. SBS does not have such a childrens channel.
Now, SBS is reportedly looking into options regarding Australia’s participation in this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest, taking place in Warsaw. The final decision about whether they will participate has not yet been made.
Australia in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest
Australia’s Junior Eurovision success and consistency mirrors their record at the adult contest. Australia first entered Junior Eurovision in 2015 with the song “My Girls” by Bella Paige, which finished in 8th with 64 points. Tied for the best finish for Australia are “Speak Up” by Isabella Clarke in 2017 and “Champion” by Jael Wena in 2018, both coming third. The latter of the two won the jury vote in 2018, having been awarded 148 points. In 2019, Jordan Anthony represented Australia with his song “We Will Rise”, finishing 8th.
