🇳🇱 Jan Smit announced as new coach for The Voice of Holland

The Voice Of Holland has announced Jan Smit, one of the planned hosts for Eurovision 2020, as a new coach, replacing Lil’ Kleine and joining Waylon, Anouk and Ali B.

Prior to its cancellation, the hosts for Eurovision 2020 included Jan Smit alongside Edsilia Rombley and Chantal Jensen. Jan Smit is a schlager singer who mostly sings Dutch music. He has been involved with the Dutch pop and Eurovision-adjacent scene for a while now. He has been commentating the Dutch broadcast of Eurovision since 2011, and he joined supergroup De Toppers in 2017.

His latest venture, announced on Facebook, is that he is joining the lineup of The Voice Of Holland. Planned for later this year, this will be the eleventh series of the Dutch version of The Voice, which was the original incarnation of the franchise. It will air later in 2020. As with all versions of The Voice, the focus will be the quality of singing talent, to find the next big Dutch voice. The most recent winner, winning in February this year, was Sophia Kruithof.

‘A great honor’

In his Facebook post, Jan said that it was a ‘great honor’ to be able to sit next to the other judges. These judges include former Eurovision entrants and stars of Dutch pop music Waylon and Anouk. The final judge, and also longest-serving, is Ali B, a popular Dutch rapper.

The presenters for Eurovision 2021 in Rotterdam have not yet been announced. However The Voice normally runs between November and February. If the plan is to keep the hosts the same, this still allows Jan the option of appearing as a presenter in May. Of course, this assumes everything runs as planned.
