🇦🇺 ‘Australia Decides’ finalists Sheppard unveil new single “Catalina”

It is New Music Friday which means lots of new music from our favourite artists from the Eurovision Song Contest family. Over in Australia, former ‘Eurovision: Australia Decides’ finalists Sheppard have unveiled their new single and music video “Catalina”.

A multi-national creation

The track, created and recorded in both Los Angeles and Brisbane, was written by band members George Sheppard, Amy Sheppard and Jason Bovino alongside Tushar Apte and Steph Jones. The concept of the song originates back to 2017, thus has been three years in the making! The accompanying music video, filmed in the band’s hometown Brisbane, was produced by Angela Murphy and directed by Bel Bare.

Inspired by California

For the first time since last summer’s “Kiss My Fat Ass”, Amy Sheppard takes the lead vocals for a Sheppard single release. Amy spoke to Out Now Magazine about the band’s new track “Catalina”:

We were so inspired by California when we were there, that a song about California basically wrote itself. It depicts a racy story of two lovers, sunglasses on and roof down, driving through the Californian desert with the sun in their faces and their real lives in the rearview mirror. This track isn’t your typical Sheppard sound, but I can’t remember the last time we had this much fun recording a single”.

Eighth single release of 2020

“Catalina” is Sheppard’s eighth single release this year as they continue their mission to release a single for every month of 2020. The band rose to fame with their 2014 international hit single “Geronimo” and also caught the attention of international Eurovision fans with 2019 single “On My Way” which placed third in ‘Eurovision: Australia Decides’ behind winner “Zero Gravity” by Kate Miller-Heidke and runner-up “2000 and Whatever” by Electric Fields.
