Back in July, SBS informed the EBU that Australia will not compete in this year’s Junior Eurovision due to the ongoing pandemic and the uncertain surroundings. After the list of the competing countries was released, SBS informed us, that the ‘new format‘ had not been communicated prior. Now our friends from aussievision.net reached out to the Australian broadcaster and got the confirmation that SBS nor ABC will broadcast this year’s competition in November!
This is a first since the debut in 2015
Since the debut in 2015, Australia always delivered in the contest. They always reached the Top 10 and came 3rd twice. This year SBS decided not to participate because of the ongoing pandemic. After the EBU announced the list of participating countries and the news, that countries could still enter the competition, many had hope SBS would change their decision. However, it was now revealed, that SBS and ABC will not even broadcast the competition this November. This will be the first time since the country entered the contest five years ago.
