Rotterdam 2021

🇳🇱 Virtual press centre being planned for Eurovision 2021

It has been announced that a virtual press centre will be created for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam.

The digital experience

The organisers of Eurovision 2021 have chosen to collaborate with Let’s Get Digital, who are based in Groningen in the Netherlands. The virtual press centre is to be catered to journalists who wish to cover the contest. Normally, around 1,500 journalists would be granted access to Rotterdam. However, it is likely that roughly 500 will be allowed in this year.

Babet Verstappen, the Head of Communications for this year’s contest, explains more:

“We are now going to set up a virtual press centre for press that cannot travel to Rotterdam in May. Where rehearsals and press conferences can be followed live for two weeks.

Recently, we have been looking for a digital platform in which we could host this and found this in the possibilities that Let’s Get Digital offers. It is important to us that journalists really feel that they are physically present. And don’t miss anything that happens there.

It is very special that for the first time in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest we are going to receive journalists in this way. A major step in our online approach.”

Moreover, Let’s Get Digital believe that the collaboration shows how creative and innovative the Netherlands can be. Even during setbacks and adjustments having to be made to Eurovision 2021.

Ruben Haring of Let’s Get Digital has said:

“We have agreed within our team that we are going to make it a great party anyway. And with that mindset the best solutions suddenly emerge.”
